About Pflugerville TX
Founded by German Settlers, Built by Community
Pflugerville was founded in the 1860s by German immigrant Henry Pfluger, who settled along Gilleland Creek in what was then a remote stretch of Travis County northeast of Austin. The Pfluger family and other German settlers who followed established a tight-knit farming community that grew cotton, corn, and grain and operated small businesses along the creek corridor. The town was formally platted in 1878 and named in honor of its founding family -- one of the few Texas cities whose name is directly tied to a German immigrant founder.
That German heritage is still celebrated today through the annual Deutschen Pfest, held each fall at Pfluger Park. The festival draws thousands of visitors for live music, food, crafts, and a children's activity area, and remains one of the most distinctive community traditions in the Austin Metro. The Heritage House Museum near downtown preserves artifacts, photographs, and period furnishings from the early settler era for residents who want to connect with Pflugerville's origins.
Northeast Austin's Fastest-Growing Community
Pflugerville incorporated in 1965 and remained a small community for decades before Austin's northward and eastward growth reached its borders. The opening of SH-130 and the expansion of major employers along the US-183 corridor drove rapid residential growth through the 2000s and 2010s. Today Pflugerville is home to over 75,000 residents and is served by Pflugerville ISD, a growing district with a strong reputation for academics and community programs.
Pflugerville sits in both Travis and Williamson counties and offers residents convenient access to downtown Austin while maintaining its own distinct community identity. Lake Pflugerville, Typhoon Texas, and a network of well-maintained neighborhood parks make it one of the most recreation-rich cities in the Greater Austin area -- and a natural fit for birthday parties, HOA block parties, school field days, and backyard events of all sizes.
